Waterford FC is delighted to confirm that midfielder John Martin has re-signed for the club ahead of the 2019 season.
Injury meant the promising midfielder missed a portion of last season, but showed his promise with some fine performances and a goal in the final match of the season at home to Limerick.
Kilkenny-native Martin played a big role as the Blues won the First Division in 2017. He made 13 league appearances last season for the Blues in the Premier Division.
Speaking after putting pen to paper for the 2019 season, John Martin told WaterfordFC.ie:
“I’m delighted to have signed for another year with the club, I really enjoyed being part of the team last year with a really great bunch of lads.
“It wasn’t the best year for me personally with the injury to my foot. But I’m back now and focused on having a good off-season and getting myself in the best shape I can be in for when we get back for pre-season.
“It’s a very exciting time for the fans and everyone at the club with European football next year and I just can’t wait to get back and get going again.”
Speaking after securing John for another season, Waterford FC manager Alan Reynolds told WaterfordFC.ie: “It’s great to get John signed up for next season. Fans have seen what John brings to the side from midfield and he scored a great goal in the final game of the season.
“He’s made the transition from U19 to first team and it hasn’t fazed him. He missed a bit of last season through injury but he worked really hard to get back before the end of the season and to finish with a goal is great for him.
“John’s a really exciting young player and he’s been fantastic since he joined the club and everyone at the club is delighted he’s re-signed.”
