Waterford FC first team Alan Reynolds has praised the players despite Friday night’s 3-2 defeat away to UCD. The Blues fell 3-0 behind but battled back to almost grab an unlikely point. Reynolds says the team just never got going against a good UCD side.

“We just didn’t turn up for the first hour of the game but the players have been great since the start of the season losing just once and that was the opening day against Athlone Town.

“We had a bad hour and we got punished by a very decent side. In fairness to them, I thought that they were very good in spells. They scored two goals and a penalty. We had a lot of possession but unforced errors meant that we gave away the ball cheaply.

“I just thought that it was a poor night from us and that UCD played well so we have to give them credit. I’m not making excuses but Mark O’Sullivan probably shouldn’t have played and Garry Comerford got a knock after a couple of minutes that didn’t help.

“We just need to dust ourselves down after this game because we’re not in too bad of a position.

“There is no panic on the back of this result. We just need to keep going, train properly and get ready for the game against Shelbourne. I thought that they were decent against us and are a good side but we just need to look after ourselves whilst been ready for next week.

“There is nobody at the minute due to come in but we are looking at a couple to add to and to freshen things up however they need to be of a certain type and a certain calibre of player. If we are bringing in players, we want to improve on what we have so it would mean players probably having to drop down a division.

“I do think that with the injuries that we have and had, we need to bring in one or two players so we’ll see how that goes. That won’t happen until the transfer window opens next week. We are talking to players but it’s about getting the right ones. We are looking, we are at it and we will add a few.”
