Blues midfielder Shane O’Connor caught up with Waterford FC’s Adrian Flanagan after the Blues 0-0 draw away to Cabinteely in the SSE Airtricity League:

“I’ve come here a few times before and it’s what you’ve come to expect. It’s always going to be a battle up here and tonight was no different. The pitch is very hard to play on, you can’t get it down and play football which works against us.

“We had to avert to a long ball tactic which dragged down the standard of the game but it was a battle and from our point of view, it’s a positive to avoid defeat and come away with a point.

“If we were to take a second positive from the game, it would be the fact that we didn’t concede, it’s another cleansheet for us. It’s great to keep the unbeaten run going but we know that wasn’t good tonight but the conditions didn’t allow for it be anything bar what it was.

“They had a couple of chances in the game but after dominating possession for long periods, if you don’t score you are always vulnerable to conceding a goal but thankfully they didn’t take the chance that came their way late on and we’re happy to leave with a point.

“Cabinteely have improved since we played them earlier in the season and they’ve brought a bit of quality into their team. It was a game that we were looking to win tonight but look, we didn’t lose and it’s a point gained and we move on. They had a game plan, they stuck to it and they got a draw out of it. We were brought down to that level where we weren’t allow play to the same style that we’re used to. We need to park this game and move on to the game against UCD next week.

“Our aim now is to try win the next two home games so we can build up a gap. We need to win games to give the other teams a mountain to climb if they do want to try catch us. The home games are going to be vital for us because we’ve been very good at home and have won all our home games. We just need to remain focused.”
