Waterford FC will look to return to winning ways this Friday when Wexford FC visit the RSC for the fourth meeting between the sides this season.

The Blues dropped two points in Tolka Park last week as Shelbourne snatched a 90th-minute equaliser to grab a share of the points.

But the Blues will be full of confidence this Friday having beaten Wexford FC three times already this season. The Blues won their opening league tie in the RSC 2-0, before 5-0 and 1-0 wins in Ferrycarrig Park in the EA Sports Cup and league respectively.

Despite dropping points last weekend, the Blues still lead the way in the First Division. The club sit three points ahead of second-placed Cobh Ramblers, and four points ahead of third-placed UCD.

Waterford FC first-team coach, Alan Reynolds: “Our home form has been decent but we’ve got to play better than that (against Shelbourne). There is no point in trying to fool anyone because we’ve got to play better and we will. We’ve got to strengthen and also get a few players back like Dean O’Halloran and Sander Puri.

“You would forget that we’re still top of the table. We’re still a few points ahead. In our last four games, we’ve had three of them away from home so in our first six games, we’ve had four away so we now have a run of home games.

“Now we can go and concentrate on playing at home again. We need to try push on and the home games are going to be vital. We knew that this was coming because it’s like the first series of games but it will be nice to playing back in the RSC.”

Centre half Kenny Browne is expecting a tough challenge after two difficult games already this season. “We beat them 2-0 in the RSC and 1-0 at Ferrycarrig Park so we know that it’s not going to be easy. It’s most important that we win on Friday but we also have to take every Friday as it comes.

“We’ve had two tough games against them and they’ll put men behind the ball. They’ll make life difficult for us but we’re at home and we’ve a great record here at home. They’ll be no excuses because we’ll be out to the win the game and that’s the bottom line.”

Team News: David McDaid is a doubt through illness while Patrick McClean is also rated doubtful. Ian McLoughlin and Dean O’Halloran are back in contention for selection after recent injuries. New loan signing Sean Heaney from Shamrock Rovers is also eligible for selection.
