Waterford FC welcome Cobh Ramblers to the RSC this Friday as first place faces second place in a crunch SSE Airtricity League First Division tie at the RSC – kick off 7.45pm.
The Blues maintained their six-point lead at the top of the table with a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Longford Town last weekend. Having beaten Wexford the previous week, the Blues left the City Calling Stadium with all three points on Saturday.
Debutant Paul Keegan was the Blues hero as his first goal for the club ensure a 1-0 win.
While the Blues picked up point on Saturday, second-placed Cobh saw off third-placed UCD 1-0 in St Colman’s Park to ensure a massive match this Friday.
New Blues’ midfielder, Paul Keegan, knows how important the win in Longford was.
“It’s great to get the win and I’m pleased to get the goal. It was a tough game and it was end to end. I know that everyone wants to be doing well and putting in good performances but it’s all about getting results and if you keep getting results then I don’t think we’ll be far off come the final game of the season.
“We have a massive game next against Cobh Ramblers. It’s important that we all get a good recovery before that match. It will be a tough game as Cobh are a very good side. We’ve all got to make sure that we look after ourselves and push forward.”
First team coach, Alan Reynolds, expects a tough match this Friday: “The game against Cobh Ramblers Friday night is a big one and we’ll be going for the jugular. We have beaten them at home and we drew with them down in Cobh. They are a good side and they are hanging in there but they’ll be boasted by the win that they got [v UCD].”
Team News: The Blues are suspension free and will be without Sander Puri who continues his return from injury ahead of an expected return in the coming weeks. Mark O’Sullivan faces a late fitness test.
