It was a busy weekend for the Blues with all three underage teams, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19, in league action.
On Saturday in the RSC, our U15 team picked up their first win with a brilliant 1-0 victory over Cork City. After the disappointment of coming up short in their opening game of the SSE Airtricity Under 15 Southern Elite Division away to Limerick, Waterford FC showed brilliant bouncebackability to overcome Cork City in the Munster Derby.
It was a tremendous performance from Fran Rockett’s side as they worked very hard for victory against a visiting side that were victorious in their first game and despite missing four key players, the Blues secured a lone goal success thanks to a Robert Bulmer first half header after Killian Griffin’s right wing cross.
The Waterford FC U17s faced a tricky away tie to Cabinteely and it proved to be a first league defeat for the leaders. The Blues fell 2-0 behind before Colm Whelan reduced the deficit. Cabinteely went 3-1 up but again the Blues fought back through Whelan. As the Blues pushed for a levelled, they fell to a fourth goal with the game ending 4-2.
On Sunday, the Blues U19s welcomed Cabinteely. A strong finish from the visitors was good enough to give them victory over a Waterford FC side that suffered their first defeat since May in their SSE Airtricity Under 19 Southern Elite Division clash played at the RSC on Sunday afternoon last.
It was a game that ended the Blues chances of progressing for the league title but it does put them in the shield competition as two late goals were the difference as Cabinteely deservedly left the South-East with all three points.
Justin Croke levelled for the Blues after Andrew McGovern had Cabinteely in front, but two goals in the final 15 minutes from Jordan Andre and Ronan O’Kelly gave Cabinteely the points in a 3-1 win.
