The Waterford FC U15s suffered their second defeat of the season when they undertook the long trip to the southwest to face Kerry in Mounthawk Park in Tralee.
A disjointed first half performance saw the Blues 2-1 down at the break, and despite a much improved second half, the Blues fell to a 3-1 defeat.
Having impressed when beating Cobh Ramblers the previous week, the Blues we hoping to keep their run going but they came away with nothing from the wet and windy Tralee venue.
The Blues fell two goals behind in the first half inside the opening 20 minutes as they struggled to get into the game with Kerry’s Leo Ghaxia and Sean McGrath on the scoresheet. The Blues were at threat to falling further behind but they dug deep and a great flowing move was finished by Ian Flynn on the stroke of half time to give the Blues a lifeline.
The second half was a different story with the Blues controlling much of the possession against a strong wind and could have levelled through Donal Porter but his header couldn’t find the target. Kyle Cuddy also went close but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
The Blues were getting joy out wide but Kerry were defending well. Another Blues move saw an the best chance of the half created when Cuddy found space on the edge of the area but he just couldn’t keep his effort down as the Blues pressed.
But in the final minutes as the Blues looked for a levelling goal, Kerry’s Leo Ghaxia scored a third to ensure Kerry picked up a 3-1 win.
