Waterford FC U17s fell to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Bohemians in the RSC on Sunday last in their U17 League semi final.

The Blues, who topped the Elite Southern Division and won the Mark Farren U17 Cup, started the better and took the lead just shy of the half hour. Darryl Walsh stepped up to a 25-yard free kick and fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner to make it 1-0.

That lead was doubled one minute before half time with a brilliant team move. Regix Madika did well down the left and found Colm Whelan inside the penalty area. He laid the ball for Mike Nzongong and he powered past the keeper to make it 2-0.

But three goals within four second-half minutes saw the game swing in Bohs favour. Sobe Nwaokolo got Bohs back in the game before a double from Lido Lotefa saw the visitors take a 3-2 lead.

David Okpailo made it 4-2 as the game looked over, but the Blues grabbed a lifeline when NZongong scored to make it 4-3.

Colm Whelan went close to levelling in the final 10 minutes but his close range shot was somehow cleared off the line as Bohs held on to take a place in the final.
