Waterford FC can confirm that midfielder Paul Keegan has committed to the club for the 2018 campaign. Having joined the team in the summer from Doncaster Rovers, Keegan proved to be a calming influence in front of the back four, putting in a string of a strong performances for the Blues and helping the side lift the SSE Airtricity League First Division title.
The 33 year old Dubliner is no stranger to the Premier Division having won silverware with both Drogheda United and Bohemians before spending seven successful years in England.
Speaking today of his continuing commitment to the club for 2018, Paul said:
“I really enjoyed coming into the club in July. With the side already sitting top of the table, I just wanted to help continue the good season that the club was already having.
“I enjoyed playing under the management team last season; they wanted us to play good football. It was great to be part of a team playing attractive attacking football.
“The support was brilliant all the way through and I look forward to seeing the big crowds again next season; we need to make the RSC a difficult place for away teams to visit.
“Next season we want to continue the habit of winning games and playing attractive football and with a big crowd behind us, anything is possible.”
First Team Coach Alan Reynolds is pleased to have Keegan on board for 2018. Speaking on the latest confirmed Blues player, Alan said:
“Paul came into the side in mid-season but settled very well and impressed immediately in midfield; chipping in with a goal on his debut against Longford Town. I’m delighted to have him back again for 2018.
“We are building a squad that has a lot of young, promising players but it is vital that we also secure experienced heads in the dressing room and on the pitch for the step up to the Premier Division. Paul has a proven track record of success in the top Division and he is an excellent role model for younger players around him.”
