Waterford FC is delighted to announce that the club has secured the signature of defender David Webster ahead of the 2018 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division campaign. Webster, who has spent the last three seasons with Shamrock Rovers, joins the club on a one year deal.

The 28 year old made a total of 95 appearances for the Hoops during which he managed one goal in his time at the club, that coming in a 3-0 Europa League victory against Luxembourg outfit Progres Niederkorn.

A native of Firhouse in Dublin, he spent seven seasons at Bray Wanderers for whom he made over 100 appearances. He was captain of the club in his final year, before making the switch to Tallaght.

Speaking on signing for the Blues, the player said:

“People I have talked to over the last few weeks have spoken highly of the club, the fans and the set up, so it is an excellent opportunity for me to be part of it all next season. After having a couple of chats with Pat Fenlon, it was clear the club has high ambitions, so I’m excited to be a part of those.

“The club had a very successful year last season and I’m hoping I can add and contribute to that success on the pitch and in the dressing room.”

David knows that he will be part of a competitive squad at the Blues this season but he’s up for the challenge. He added:

“First and foremost I want to play. I know I will have to work hard to get into the team because this group of players were magnificent last season, winning the league with games to spare but I’m excited to take on that challenge.

“The fans will see a player who is 100% committed every time he puts the Waterford shirt on.”

As a player with a wealth of experience in the division, his addition to the Blues’ defence will come as a massive boost for Waterford FC First Team Coach Alan Reynolds, who expressed his delight at David’s decision to join the club, he said:

“We went and watched Dave play a couple of times before the end of last season and he is a player who really ticks a lot of boxes for us as we try to build our defence. He is a commanding centre half and he is a leader on and off the pitch.

“He has shown real consistency at the top level over the last few seasons and I’m looking forward to getting to work with him ahead of the new campaign.”
