SSE Airtricity League Premier Division
Dundalk -v- Waterford FC
Monday, May 21, 2018
Kick Off: 7.45pm
Referee: Robert Hennessy

The games continue to come thick and fast as Waterford FC are back in action this Monday with a trip to face Dundalk in Oriel Park in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Friday’s defeat at home to Limerick will have hurt the Blues squad and they’ll look to bounce back against top of the table Dundalk.

The Blues fell behind early and were a man down after half an hour, but showed plenty of fight to give themselves a chance throughout the game, but it wasn’t to be as Limerick left with the points.

This Monday will see another tough challenge; the sides have both won their respective home ties this season against each other. The Blues won 2-1 in the RSC at the start of May with two goals from Izzy Akinade, while Dundalk grabbed all three points in Oriel Park in March with a late own goal downing the Blues.

Waterford FC manager Alan Reynolds was disappointed with the defeat against Limerick, but was full of praise for his players during the busy schedule of recent weeks.

“I don’t know how I sum it up [the 6-3 defeat to Limerick]. We started poorly and gave away a goal from a set piece once again which is disappointing. We were three goals down and a man down inside 21 minutes. I said to the lads that we would have a go at it at half time and see where it takes us because we were after getting a goal back before the break. I thought that we did well to get back to 3-2 until the decision for the fourth goal for Limerick. Dylan Barnett is getting treatment for the tackle and could be out for a week or two.

“We were as positive as we could be, and we tried to get something out of the game. We ran out of steam at the end of the game and ended up conceding those two late goals. We have had three away games in a week and we’ve spoken about that. It’s a tough act for us but we’re doing our best and we’ll look forward to the game against Dundalk.

“Do I think that we’re going to win the league? No, I don’t think so, but we’re having a great season and the players have been absolutely fantastic but we need to keep going.”

TEAM NEWS: Waterford FC continue to be without John Kavanagh (knee) and Garry Comerford (foot). Kenny Browne returned on Friday after injury, but Dylan Barnett (ankle) is rated as doubtful following Friday’s match.
