SSE Airtricity League Premier Division
Waterford FC -v- St Patrick’s Athletic
Friday, June 8, 2018
Kick Off: 7.45pm
Referee: Ray Matthews

Waterford FC return to home comforts this Friday when fifth-placed St Patrick’s Athletic visit the RSC in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

The Blues come into the game on the back of last week’s 3-0 defeat away to Cork City; goals from Garry Buckley, Graham Cummins and Kieran Sadlier gave the home side the win.

But the Blues will look to build on the performance despite the defeat and build on their excellent home record that has seen Alan Reynolds’ side defeated just once this season.

The sides have both won their respective home fixtures against each other this season; Kenny Browne and Bastien Hery scored as the Blues won 2-0 in the RSC in February. A solitary Ryan Brennan goal gave St Pat’s the points in Richmond Park in April.

The Blues currently sit third in the table, six points ahead of Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic.

Blues first-team coach Paul Cashin was happy with the side’s performance last week and expects another tough game this Friday:

“It was a strange game [against Cork City], I thought we were excellent for 60/70 minutes, I thought we played some great football in that period but the goal before half time was a killer. Second half, I thought we played good football too but we had to go for it and Cork capitalised.

“The squad has been stretched with injuries, we had Sander [Puri] away on international duty too, but there’s been a magnificent effort from the lads, they’re showing great character and that really epitomises what the lads are about.

“The break is coming soon but we’re just taking every game as it comes, I know it’s a cliché, but we’ll look no further than this Friday. We’re preparing for match in the RSC against a good St Pat’s side and we know that nothing will be easy on the night.”

TEAM NEWS: John Kavanagh (knee), Garry Comerford (foot) and Paul Keegan (calf) continue to miss out through injury. Dylan Barnett is a doubt with a calf injury, but Sander Puri returns from international duty. Stanley Aborah serves the second of a three-match suspension.
