Third face fourth this Sunday as Waterford FC welcome Shamrock Rovers to the RSC in a crunch SSE Airtricity League Premier Division clash.
Just seven points separate the sides in the league table and both will be looking for maximum points in the battle for third place.
The Blues’ last league match saw a 1-1 draw at the RSC as Bastien Hery’s solo effort earned a point against Bohemians. With no league match last weekend, the Blues had a good workout against Linfield in Windsor Park midweek.
Visitors Shamrock Rovers comes into the game after a narrow 2-1 aggregate defeat in the Europe League, but have good league form behind them with after a draw in Cork and a win against Derry the weeks previous.
The sides have played two competitive matches against each other this season; Courtney Duffus struck either side of a Graham Burke goal to earn Alan Reynolds’ side the points in the RSC, while Gavan Holohan’s goal was cancelled out as Graham Burke scored in the final quarter in a 1-1 draw.
Blues manager Alan Reynolds is looking forward to the game and knows what to expect from the visitors.
“Any time you play Shamrock Rovers you never get anything easy and that’s how the games in the RSC and in Tallaght Stadium played out already this season.
“Sunday will be equally tough but it’s a match we’ve been looking forward to – these are the fixtures that the Premier Division is all about and the clubs have great history over the years. Stephen has his side on a good recent run in the league so we’ll have to be at our best once again.
“Their performance in Europe during the week showed the quality they have so we won’t be underestimating them.”
TEAM NEWS: John Martin misses the match with an ankle injury, while Garry Comerford made a welcome return from a foot injury midweek against Linfield.
