Waterford FC is delighted to announce the signing of Kevin Lynch. The much sought-after defender pens a deal to move to the RSC for the 2019 season.
The tall 26-year-old played his junior football in a Sheriff YC team that reached the quarter finals of the FAI Cup in 2015; defeating Athlone Town and UCD before a quarter-final defeat to Longford Town. He also won the FAI Junior Cup.
Kevin moved to Bray Wanderers in 2016 where he helped the club to a 6th place Premier Division finish. Lynch is a left sided defender who can also play as an attacking wing-back.
Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie after signing for the 2019 season, Kevin said:
“I’m delighted to get signed and be sorted for next season. I was away for a few weeks but I’d met Alan [Reynolds] beforehand and again when I got back. I had a few other options around the league but to be honest once I knew the interest was there from Waterford it was an easy decision.
“Everything appealed to me about the opportunity. Of course the European football is a big attraction, but when you look at the club and the facilities too; the training ground and playing pitch, it’s a pro setup.
“I’ve played with Cory [Galvin] at Bray before so I’m looking forward to playing on the same team as him again. Last season was a tough one for me but this a great opportunity. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the Waterford crowd too which I saw last season as an opponent and I just can’t wait to start pre-season.”
Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie after confirming the signing, manager Alan Reynolds said:
“Kevin is a strong left-sided player and he’s one I’m delighted to bring in. There were a few teams after him so it’s great that he’s signed for the season.
“He’s a good ball-playing defender and he likes to get forward so he’ll suit our style of play. He’s at a good age and has good experience from junior football and in the Premier Division too so he’ll be an important signing for us.”
Kevin joins Matthew Connor, John Martin, Dean Walsh, Rory Feely, Cory Galvin, Shane Duggan, Bastien Hery, JJ Lunney, Zack Elbouzedi and Ismahil Akinade in the confirmed Waterford FC 2019 squad so far.
