Waterford FC suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat on the road against Finn Harps in Finn Park on Friday.
Aaron Drinan gave the Blues an early lead but a penalty and free kick from Mikey Place had Harps leading at the break.
Damien Delaney equalised in the 89th minute but Sean Boyd gave Harps the win one minute later.
The Blues struck for the lead goal inside four minutes when Cory Galvin played in Aaron Drinan and the striker fired home the opener.
Finn Harps equalised on 24 minutes. Rory Feely was judged to have fouled Mikey Place outside the penalty area and he levelled the scoring.
Finn Harps were awarded a penalty by referee Paul McLaughlin seven minutes later when the Monaghan official judged that Georgie Poynton had committed a foul on Liam Walsh. Mikey Place found the top corner from the penalty spot.
Waterford FC equalising in the final minute or normal time when Izzy Akinade headed a corner kick across goal and Damien Delaney was on hand to volley home.
But as the Blues tried to grab a winner, Finn Harps struck for the winner when Mikey Place slipped the ball into the path of Sean Boyd and he kept his composure to fire the ball between Matthew Connor’s legs.
