SSE Airtricity League Premier Division
Sligo Rovers -v- Waterford FC
Saturday, July 13, 2019
Kick Off: 8pm
Referee: Robert Harvey

Waterford FC return to action this Saturday evening as Alan Reynolds’ side travel to The Showgrounds to face Sligo Rovers.

After a disappointing defeat last weekend against St Patrick’s Athletic, the Blues will be hoping to bounce back against Liam Buckley’s side.

Goals from Conor Clifford and Dean Clarke either side of half time cancelled out Cory Galvin’s wonderful strike midway through the first half.

The sides last met in May when they played out a crazy 3-3 draw in the RSC, while the return fixture in The Showgrounds was a 0-0 draw.

The Blues’ last victory over Sligo Rovers came at the tail end of the 2018 season, as Alan Reynolds’ team won 1-0 in the RSC thanks to a Sander Puri goal.

Manager View: Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match, manager Alan Reynolds said:

“We were really disappointed last week [against St Pats]. It was a tired performance in a game that lacked a lot of quality overall I thought.

“We’ve regrouped with an eight-day break from game to game and we’ve been able to get a few players in with the likes of Will Fitzgerald and Michael O’Connor. We’ll be looking for points this weekend; the lads have worked really hard and we go to Sligo wanting a win.

“We know we’re still missing players but we have the quality in the squad to go and win. We conceded two minutes after we went in front last week so need to be better to get something on Saturday.”

Team News: Zack Elbouzedi, Kevin Lynch and Cory Galvin miss out. Karolis Chvedukas is suspended while Rob Slevin is away at the World University Games.
