SSE Airtricity League Premier Division
Derry City -v- Waterford FC
Monday, July 29, 2019
Kick Off: 7.45pm
Referee: Derek Tomney

Waterford FC will look to build on Friday night’s victory over UCD as the Blues travel to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium to face Derry City this Monday.

The Blues go into Monday’s Premier Division game on the back of a 2-1 victory over UCD. Zack Elbouzedi’s first-half goal was cancelled out by Liam Kerrigan, but Dean Walsh struck late in the game to grab three important points for the Blues.

The Blues and Derry City last met back in April when a four-goal thriller on Easter Monday saw the spoils shared; a late Shane Duggan spot kick earned the Blues a point.

The last trip to the Brandywell saw the home side take all three points. Ciaron Harkin gave the home side a 13th-minute lead before Shane Duggan’s expertly taken penalty kick levelled. The Blues twice put through their own net before Cory Galvin’s late goal ended up as a just a consolation.

Monday is the first of two trips to Derry for Alan Reynolds’ side who face the same opposition in the EA SPORTS Cup semi final on Monday, August 5th in the same venue.

Managers View: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match against Derry, manager Alan Reynolds said:

“Winning on Friday was big for us. We’ve played better in some of the previous games in spells but it was all about getting the points for us. They’d beaten us earlier in the season and were in good form so we’re delighted to get the points. UCD are a good side and they’ll keep taking points off teams.

“Getting Zack back from injury was important and his goal showed his quality. And what can you say about Dean’s goal, it was like a Van Persie strike so we’re thrilled he showed what he can do.

“Derry will be hurting after losing to Finn Harps so we have to be wary of that. We have two games on two consecutive Mondays so we need to prepare well for both.

“There’s been plenty of goals between the teams in the matches so far so no doubt it’ll be an entertaining game again.”

Team News: Kevin Lynch and Sam Bone continue to miss out. Shane Duggan is a doubt after Friday’s match in UCD. Kenny Browne is expected to return from illness.
