EA SPORTS Cup Semi-Final
Derry City -v- Waterford FC
Monday, August 05, 2019
Kick Off: 7pm
Referee: Robert Rogers

Waterford FC make the long trip to Derry again this Monday to face Derry City with an EA SPORTS Cup final place on offer.

The Blues last outing in the Cup saw Alan Reynolds’ side come out on top against Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds, where a solitary goal from on-loan striker Scott Twine saw the Blues book their place in the last four of the competition.

In the club’s other game in the competition, the Blues beat Galway United 2-1 at the RSC.

Derry’s route to the semi-final comes in the form of a 2-1 victory over their local rivals Finn Harps and a 3-0 win over Longford Town.

The Blues go into this Monday’s EA SPORTS Cup game on the back of last Monday’s 2-0 loss against the Candystripes.

Manager View: Speaking ahead of Monday’s EA SPORTS Cup match, manager Alan Reynolds said:

“We were disappointed with last week’s game [2-0 defeat] but we couldn’t have any complaints about the result. We gave away some poor goals and gave Derry the momentum when we didn’t start well.

“This Monday is the Cup so it’s a different story. It’s our second trip to Derry on consecutive Mondays so there’s nothing easy about that but there’s a place in the final on offer so we’ll be well up for that.

“We’ve trained well all week and it’s given Zack [Elbouzedi] another good week of training and we’ve added Walter [Figueira] too so we’re looking forward to the game. We know our fans will be there as they’ve been great this season so we’ll look to give them something to shout about.”

Captain View: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match against Derry, captain Rory Feely said:

“We’re all really looking forward to the chance of getting to a cup final. It is a really good opportunity to give the squad a boost, with our league form not where we want it to be.

“Travelling to Derry again is going to be tough on us, but we’ve prepared well for the game in between the two trips up there.

“We’re very excited and focused on coming out of there with a win and giving the fans something to celebrate.”

Team News: Walter Figueira’s international clearance has come through and he is available for selection. Kevin Lynch is rated 50/50 but Sam Bone misses out.
