Waterford FC -v- Hearts Colts
Friday, September 6th, 2019
Kick Off: 7:45pm
Referee: Paul Howard

Waterford FC take a break from league action with the visit of Heart of Midlothian Colts to the RSC this Friday for the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup third round tie.

Alan Reynolds’ side will be full of confidence after a 2-1 victory over Cork City in Turners Cross on Monday night; the third win over Cork this season.

Goals from Maxim Kouogun and Walter Figueira ensured the Blues took all three points in the final Munster Derby of the season, despite trailing at half time.

The Blues enter the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup in the third round, while the opponents, managed by son of a former Blues FAI Cup winner Paul Kirk, have beaten Cowdenbeath 3-1 with goals from Daniel Baur, Aidan Keena and Dario Zanatta in the previous round, after beating Albion Rovers in the previous round.

Managers Views: Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie ahead of Friday’s match, manager Alan Reynolds said:

“You don’t get to see matches like this very often and there’s been a nice buzz about the game since the draw was made. No doubt Hearts manager Andy Kirk will have his side well prepared and they’ll be looking to do well after getting through two rounds already.

“It’s a competition that offers the players, the fans and the club something different. It’s come at a very busy time for us but we’re looking forward to playing in it. Neither team will know too much about the other so it should make for an interesting battle.

“Hearts will be a young side but we’re a young side too and I’m delighted to be able to showcase the young, talented players that we have at Waterford FC.”

Team News: John Kavanagh and Dean Walsh are ruled out through injury. Manager Alan Reynolds has also included a number of the club’s high-flying U19 players in the first team squad for the game.
