SSE Airtricity League Premier Division

Sligo Rovers -v- Waterford FC

Saturday, 29th February 2020

Kick-Off: 7.45pm

Referee: Robert Harvey

Waterford FC are on the road this weekend as Alan Reynolds’ side take on Sligo Rovers in The Showgrounds.

The Blues manager will be hoping his side bounces back after Monday’s defeat to Shamrock Rovers. An Akin Odimayo own goal and a Rhys Marshall strike in the opening 20 minutes ensured Rovers took all three points from the RSC against ten-man Waterford.

Waterford last faced Sligo at the tail end of last season, with the Blues running out comfortable 2-0 winners over the Connacht club. A 0-0 draw was the outcome the last time these two sides faced off in The Showgrounds.

Sligo have been unable to beat the Blues since May 2018 when they defeated Alan Reynolds’ side by a solitary goal to nil.

Of the last 10 games between these two sides, the Blues have won four and drawn four. Sligo have been unable to beat the Blues in league action since Waterford’s return to the Premier Division.

Managers View: Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match against Sligo Rovers, manager Alan Reynolds said:

“We’re all looking forward to Saturday night and hopefully get back on track. The lads have put in a good week of training and are looking forward to getting back on the pitch.

“It’s been hard to really work on shape or anything in the opening 10 days of the season when you’re playing three games in such a short period, but like I said the lads have put a good shift in since Monday night and raring to go.

“We’ve enjoyed playing against Sligo since we’ve come back to the Premier Division, but I’ve no doubt they’ll be out to get all three points as well. Liam [Buckley] will have them well set up and they’ll be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Bohs on Monday. It should be a good match.”

Team News: Dean Walsh, Tyreke Wilson and Michael O’Connor all miss out due to injuries.
