Extra.ie FAI Cup First Round
Dundalk FC -v- Waterford FC
Tuesday, 11th August 2020
Kick-Off: 7:45 pm
Referee: Paul McLaughlin
Attention turns to the Extra.ie FAI Cup this Tuesday as Waterford FC travel to Oriel Park to face Dundalk FC.
The Blues make the trip to Louth after a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon when Cork City came to the RSC. Despite some late chances, the Blues were unable to find a way past Mark McNulty in the City goal.
Waterford faced off against Dundalk in this competition last season at the quarter-final stages. A second-half goal from Maxi Kouogon proved only a consolation as the Blues went down 3-1 on the night.
The sides last meeting came just a week later when Daniel Kelly’s goal just before halftime secured all three points for the Lilywhites in the RSC.
Managers View: Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s match against Dundalk, manager John Sheridan said:
“I was disappointed after Saturday’s game. I felt we did enough to win it, but that’s football. Some days you get the rub of the green and other days you don’t. We just need to regroup as a team and move on with it.
“It’s a quick turnaround but we’re looking forward to Tuesday’s game. The cup is one of those things where anything can happen so we’re looking forward to taking on Dundalk.
“We have two away trips within a few days, both at the home of the current Premier Division winners, so we know things will be tough. We’ll prepare as best as we can ahead of Tuesday’s game and give it our all.”
Team News: Manager John Sheridan will have a full squad to pick from for Tuesday night’s game, with John Martin and Jake Davidson both available for selection having missed Saturday’s Munster Derby.
