SSE Airtricity League Premier Division

Dundalk FC -v- Waterford FC

Friday, 14th August 2020

Kick-Off: 5:45 pm

Referee: Ray Matthews

Waterford FC return to Oriel Park for the second time this week as the Blues take on Dundalk FC on Friday evening.

A Sean Hoare goal on 17 minutes proved decisive as Dundalk FC knocked Waterford out of this year’s Extra.ie FAI Cup on Tuesday night.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half after a Stefan Colovic freekick found Sean Hoare who powered his header past Tadgh Ryan in the Waterford goal.

The Blues last faced Dundalk in league action at the end of the 2019 season, when a first half goal from Daniel Kelly ensured the Lilywhites took all three points from the RSC.

Managers View: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Dundalk, manager John Sheridan said:

“I was disappointed with the goal that we conceded on Tuesday, but I’m pleased with the effort that the lads put in. They always give 110% and I can’t ask for any more than that.

“We’ve done well since the restart keeping two clean sheets, but that was a very soft goal from a set-piece. We regrouped and gave it a go in the final half-hour.

“It’s another quick turn around playing on Tuesday and again on Friday but we are ready. The lads have been working hard in training since we got back and I know what each of them is capable of.

“Oriel Park is a tough place to travel to. It’s a tricky pitch and they [Dundalk] have been very strong there over the last few seasons. We have to be at our best if we’re going to get something from the game on Friday, but I’m sure that we’ll be stronger.”

Team News: The Blues will be further strengthened this weekend with the return of Dean Walsh who returns after picking up a knock against Bray during the preparations for the return to action.
