Waterford FC return to action this Saturday as the Blues welcome Shelbourne to the RSC.

The sides last met back in August when a John Martin goal after 15 minutes was enough for the Blues to take all three points from Tolka Park in the first goal of the restarted league. The last home competitive encounter came back in September 2017 as two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Saturday afternoon’s game will also see the Blues return to the RSC hoping to get back to winning ways after last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Derry City in the Brandywell. The Blues last match in the RSC saw Fran Rockett get off to a winning start with a 1-0 win over Sligo Rovers.

The Blues currently sit in third place in the league; Shelbourne are in eighth place.

Managers View: Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match against Shelbourne, manager Fran Rockett said:

“Things didn’t go our way last weekend but that’s football. The lads have shown massive character all week in training and are ready to go on Saturday. We have had a positive week on the training ground and there is a real desire in the group to bounce back and give our fans something to shout about.

“Shels are a good side. They gave us a tough game two months ago up in Tolka, and I’m sure they are coming down hoping for three points to move them away from the danger zone at the bottom of the table.

“For us, we just want to get back to winning. We want to focus on ourselves and get back to churning out results. There’s no such thing as an easy game in the League of Ireland so we have to treat everyone as a new challenge.

Team News: Sam Bone continues to miss out due to a hamstring injury. Darryl Murphy returned to full training during the week and is expected to play some part in Saturday’s game.
