SSE Airtricity League Premier Division
Longford Town -v- Waterford FC
Monday, June 21st, 2021
Kick-Off: 7:45pm
Referee: Ray Matthews

Waterford FC are on the road this Monday as Marc Bircham’s side face Longford Town in Bishopsgate.

Despite taking an early lead on Friday evening through Eric Molloy, the Blues slipped to a 4-1 loss at the hands of league leaders Shamrock Rovers.

These sides last faced each other back in April, when a single goal from Prince Mutswunguma saw the Blues take all three points in what was a battling performance.

The sides last meeting in the midlands came back in a First Division fixture back in 2017 when the Blues ran out 1-0 winners. Of the sides last 25 meetings, the Blues have won on 11 occasions, with the sides sharing the spoils just four times.

Longford come into the game having picked up a point on Friday night against Dundalk.

Manager’s View: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match against Longford Town, manager Marc Bircham said:

“There were lots of good performances on Friday night so we need to bring that into Monday. Shamrock Rovers were the better team on the night so we’ve no complaints about that. We felt a few decisions didn’t go our way but that’s football and we move on.

“The players are working hard to implement the way we’re trying to play and we’re a work in progress at the moment. Longford will bring a different challenge. They got a good point on Friday so they’ll be raring to go. We’ve prepared the right way and we know what we need to do on the night.”

Team News: Isaac Tshipamba returns from suspension but Kyle Ferguson, Tunmise Sobowale and Cian Kavanagh are doubts. Daryl Murphy and Oscar Brennan miss out.
