MATCH PREVIEW: Longford Town -v- Waterford FC (13/11/2021)
SSE Airtricity Premier Division
Longford Town -v- Waterford FC
Saturday, 13th November 2021
Kick-Off: 7:30pm
Referee: Ray Matthews
Waterford FC’s quest for Premier Division survival continues this Saturday as the Blues travel to the midlands to take on Longford Town.
The Blues come into the game on the back of a 3-1 defeat last Friday night at home to league champions Shamrock Rovers. Marc Bircham’s side took the lead inside the opening quarter hour through a well taken John Martin goal, but three second half goals from Rovers condemned the Blues to defeat.
Friday’s hosts come into the game on the back of a 2-0 loss away to Dundalk in Oriel Park on Sunday.
The sides last met in August when the Blues ran out 4-1 winners, while our last trip to Longford saw a 2-1 win. Marc Bircham’s team will be hoping to make it a clean sweep over Longford this season with a massive three points on the line.
The Blues currently sit in 9th place in the league, one point behind Finn Harps, but with one game less played.
Manager’s View: Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match against Longford Town, manager Marc Bircham said:
“It’s another big game but they’ve all been big games over the past few weeks. The players have done brilliant to even have us in this position and now we have two games to go in the league.
“That’s why I was so disappointed last week. The players know how frustrated I was about conceding from three set pieces in a week so we’ve looked at that and are working towards Saturday now.
“People might say that Longford are bottom of the table and that it’ll be an easy game but we know that won’t be the case. They’ve changed their manager and they’ll want to give their own fans something to shout about so we’re expecting a really tough game.”
Team News: Cameron Evans is suspended while Prince Mutswunguma misses out through injury. Eddie Nolan, Isaac Tshipamba, Darragh Power and John Martin are doubts and face late fitness tests.
