Waterford FC make the trip west on Friday night to take on Galway United in the SSE Airtricity First Division.
A first-half goal from Louis Britton proved decisive last Friday night as the Blues ran out 1-0 winners over Bray Wanderers in the RSC.
The breakthrough came for the Blues on 27 minutes when Richard Taylor’s cross from the left wasn’t dealt with by the Bray defence and Britton was on hand to slot home from close range to score what turned out to be the winner.
That made it six points from six after the opening weekend’s 5-2 win away to Athlone Town.
Opponents Galway come into Friday’s game on the back of a 1-0 win over Cork City in Turner’s Cross last weekend. A first-half goal from Edward McCarthy gave John Caulfield’s side all three points, despite playing most of the second half with 10 men.
The sides last met back in 2019 in the League Cup second round when the Blues ran out 2-1 winners in the RSC with goals either side of the break.
Manager View: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Galway United, manager Ian Morris said:
“Last week we weren’t anywhere near what we’ve been like the previous few weeks, but we’re delighted with the three points. They are the type of games where you have to dig in; you need to break them down and then dig in.
“It’s two wins from two – that was our objective, so we move onto the next game. We had chances to probably make the game a bit easier, but it doesn’t always happen.
“I know we can be a lot better. The lads take confidence from that to bring into Galway now. We dealt with everything that was thrown at us, we got the points and now look to Galway on Friday.”
Team News: Kilian Cantwell continues to miss out.
