Cork City -v- Waterford FC

Kick-Off: 7:45 pm
Referee: Paul Norton
Waterford FC are on the road on Monday for the second game in four days to face Cork City in Turner’s Cross.
The Blues come into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Wexford FC on Friday night in the RSC. Phoenix Patterson’s goal 11 minutes before half time proved decisive as Ian Morris’ side took all three points.
The Blues took the lead on seven minutes when Junior Quitirna slotted home from the penalty spot before a well struck Conor Crowley free kick just before the half hour mark levelled the game up. The Blues winner came just five minutes later when Patterson fired the ball low past Hunt in the Wexford goal.
Cork picked up three points in a 2-0 win over Cobh Ramblers on Friday. Goals either side of the interval from Ally Gilchrist and Cian Murphy saw Cork win.
The sides last met back in 2020, playing out a 0-0 draw in Turner’s Cross in the Premier Division. The Blues’ last win over our Munster rivals came back in 2019. Two goals in the last eight minutes of the game from Maxi Kouogun and Walter Figueira saw the Blues win in a season where the Blues beat Cork on three occasions.
The Blues currently sit on top of the First Division standings after four games played, with Cork City just three points behind in second place.
Manager View: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match against Cork City, manager Ian Morris said:
“It’s another three points from the game [v Wexford] which was the goal but a frustrating game. We weren’t as fluent in our play as we have been and we were sloppy. We need to be better in possession and we need to put chances away when we get them. But we’re unbeaten and top of the table.
“We dug deep, got the points, stay top of the league and now look to Cork on Monday. Turners Cross is always a good place to go, we know the place will be packed and that’s what we want to be playing in.
“We had a couple of knocks but we’re hoping to have them back for Monday and the lads are raring to go again.”
Team News: Kilian Cantwell continues to miss out. Richard Taylor is suspended.
