Waterford FC make the short trip to Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night as the Blues take on Wexford FC.

The Blues come into this Friday’s game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cork City on Monday afternoon in the RSC. An Ally Gilchrist header after 63 minutes secured the points for the visitors, despite a Phoenix Patterson equaliser just minutes earlier.

Since that, Ian Morris has departed as manager, with Assistant Manager Gary Hunt and David Breen taking charge this Friday.

Wexford fell to defeat at the hands of Treaty United on Monday as a Stephen Christopher penalty saw Treaty take the three points.

The sides last met in March when a Junior Quitirna penalty and a Phoenix Patterson strike just before half time saw the Blues win 2-1, despite Conor Crowley levelling things up just before the half-hour mark.

The Blues last visit to Ferrycarrig Park came back in 2017 in a League winning campaign as the Blues ran out 3-0 winners; with a brace of goals from Mark O’Sullivan and a Paddy Barrett second-half strike.

Blues currently sit in fifth place in the league; Wexford currently sit in 6th place.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Wexford FC, assistant manager Gary Hunt said:

“The lads have trained well prior to the game and are looking forward to getting back on the pitch. We know we should have more points on the board but the focus is fully now on the upcoming game and picking up the three points.

“We felt we deserved something from Monday’s game so it’s important that we take some positives from that and build upon it.

“As a group now we must be prepared for the challenge that Wexford will bring. Ian Ryan has built a good side as we have seen already this season but focus now has to be getting back to winning football matches.”

Team News: Anthony Wordsworth and Junior Quitirna miss out through injury.
