Waterford FC -v- Longford Town

Kick-Off: 7:45pm
Referee: Paul Norton

Waterford FC will look to make it back-to-back wins when Longford Town visit the RSC this Friday night.

Having won eight on the bounce, the Blues suffered consecutive defeats at the hands of Galway United and Wexford, but bounced back last weekend with a five star performance in Cobh.

Goals from Cian Kavanagh, Wassim Aouachria (2), Callum Stringer and Junior Quitirna secured a comprehensive 5-0 win in St Colman’s Park for Danny Searle’s side after two disappointing defeats.

Friday is the third meeting between the Blues and Longford Town in league action this season. A late goal salvaged a point in the RSC in April this season before the Blues ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in Bishopsgate in May.

The Blues sit third in the league table, while Longford sit one place and eight points behind in 4th spot.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Longford Town, Head Coach Danny Searle said:

“We were delighted to get back to winning last weekend after our recent defeats. We knew Cobh would offer a stern challenge with a new manager, so we were pleased to hit the front in the first half and take a lead into the second half

“We were delighted with the goals we scored and the chances created but we know we can, and need to be better. It was a step in the right direction and we’re pushing the lads again.

“The club has had some good games against Longford over the years and we expect that again. We know they can cause problems and they’ll be looking to bounce back after defeat last weekend. Gary will have them ready coming down so it’s up to us to be ready to go.”

Team News: Eddie Nolan misses out through injury, while Phoenix Patterson returns after illness.
