SSE Airtricity First Division
Waterford FC -v- Cork City
Friday, 9th September 2022
Kick-Off: 7:45 pm
Referee: Alan Patchell

It’s the final Munster Derby of the season as Waterford FC welcome league leaders Cork City to the RSC this Friday.

The Blues are unbeaten in six and will look to continue their good form towards the business end of the season.

Danny Searle’s side come into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw last weekend. Goals from Junior Quitirna and Roland Idowu had the Blues leading before a Wexford comeback to share the points.

Wins against St Patrick’s Athletic, Treaty United, Galway United and Malahide United have the side full of confidence with our Munster rivals in town this weekend.

The sides have met three times this season in the league with the visitors holding the upper hand with two wins. The most recent clash saw the points shared in Turners Cross, despite the Blues playing over 80 minutes with just ten men.

The visitors hold an eight point lead at the top of the First Division table but were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Longford Town last weekend.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Cork City, head coach Danny Searle said:

“We’re in good form with the two Cup wins thrown in (to the four league matches unbeaten) so we come into [Friday’s] game with plenty of motivation to keep our good run going.

“The recent Monday match in Cork was one we were glad to take a point having played with 10 men for most of the game but we’re coming into [Friday’s] game looking to go one better and pick up more points.

“We know what to expect from Cork. Colin [Healy] has them playing a certain way and it’s up to us to nullify that and do what we do best in attack. They’re top of the table for a reason but we’re looking forward to getting on the pitch again.

Team News: Eddie Nolan and Brian Murphy continue to miss out.
