Waterford FC head coach Danny Searle has spoken to the Club ahead of Saturday’s SSE Airtricity First Division play-off semi-final second leg match against Treaty United at the RSC (7:45pm kick-off).
Supporters can buy their tickets for the match ONLINE or via the Club Shop which will be open.
Here is what he had to say:
Looking ahead to Saturday…
“We have put ourselves in a very good position after a very professional job on Wednesday night at Treaty. Since the game we as a group have been analysing the performance and have looked at ways, we can be better.
“We need to make sure that we don’t take things for granted, we need to do the right things on the pitch, be professional again and now it’s up to the lads to take the opportunity they have to reach the play-off final and as long as we do what we do best, we should be okay.
“In the squad we have a few knocks and niggles to look at and that might impact what we do on the night, we need to protect players as it has been a long season and if we can work it out, there’s potentially a final for us to be part of and we want to be as strong as we possibly can be.
“The reality is that Treaty have to come to us and do something that no other team has done all season, and that is to score four goals to knock us out but we know that it isn’t impossible.“
On not taking the game for granted…
“We have used the Liverpool and Barcelona game as an example to the lads today and the fact that nobody thought Liverpool would go and win that game after being three goals today.
“We can’t take this game for granted and that is where the professionalism comes into our preparations, and we try and kill the tie off as quickly as we can, and we make sure this Club is fighting for promotions.”
On the importance of the fans…
“It’s also important that the fans don’t take this game for granted as well, and I know we are in a living crisis but the gesture by the Chairman [Andy Pilley] to put on free tickets for the match for those with a season ticket is fantastic and I hope they all turn up and take advantage of the offer and also bring people with them and pack out the RSC.
“I hope they continue the partisan crowd and make it a tribal mentally and we will need that again on Saturday and be like they were on Wednesday!”
