Waterford FC is delighted to announce the signing of Matthew Connor ahead of the 2023 SSE Airtricity League season.

The Waterford native re-joins the Blues having spent last season with Galway United.

Another graduate of the Waterford FC Academy after playing his football with Tramore AFC, Matthew joined the club in 2014 before making his senior debut for the club later that year against Wexford Youths, before spells with Wexford, Cork City and two spells with Galway United.

Connor becomes the latest signing for the new season as manager Danny Searle continues his squad building ahead of the club’s promotion push.

Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie, Connor said:

“I am delighted to be back in Waterford again. I didn’t want to leave my hometown club in the past so I can’t wait to get back to work and to meet up with the group again.

“Obviously, I was here in 2017 when we won the league and it is one of my best memories in football and something I want to achieve again this season. The club looks to be really pushing on with Danny and the new owners, so to have the opportunity to come back and be part of it is something I am excited about.

“The last few seasons have thrown a lot of setbacks my way, but I can’t wait to get the gloves back on and ultimately get back on the pitch and help the club to get back to where we belong.”
