The Blues came into the game on the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat against Premier Division Cork City on Tuesday night in the Munster Senior Cup, with nine Waterford FC Academy players involved in the Blues matchday squad.
Cork took the lead after Tunde Olowabi found the back of the net, but their lead lasted just 10 minutes before Wassim Aouachria found the back of the net from the spot just before half-time. City secured their place in the final on 89 minutes with a goal from Cian Bargary.
The sides last meeting in the Markets Field came in last season’s play-offs when the Blues ran out comfortable 4-1 winners. The Blues currently sit in 4th place in the league while Treaty sit second from bottom.
From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Treaty United, Head Coach Danny Searle said:
“We’re disappointed to lose against Cork but we take the positives from the game and look to Treaty. It allowed us to give a taste of first team action to some of the Academy players with a 16 and 17-year-old starting and an 18-year-old coming on.
“Treaty are a team we got to know well last season and we’re expecting close games. They’ve lost two games to a single goal and competed well so we need to be switched on and play our game. We’ve show glimpses of quality and now we need that consistency to get a good run going.”
Team News: Matthew Connor continues his recovery from injury. Chris Conn-Clarke is suspended following his red card last weekend.
