SSE Airtricity First Division
Treaty United -v- Waterford FC
Monday, 24th April 2023
Kick-Off: 7.45pm
Referee: Marc Lynch

It’s a quick turnaround for Keith Long’s side who return to action on Monday night with a trip to Markets Field to take on Treaty United. (Tickets can be purchased here.)

The Blues secured three points on Friday in a 4-3 win against Athlone Town in the RSC thanks to four goals from Ronan Coughlan.

Having raced to a four-goal lead in the first half, the second half proved a much sterner test for Keith Long’s side who had to see out a battling Athlone Tow side to record our second win against the Midlanders this season.

That was a fourth successive win for Keith Long and the Blues with two matches this week.

The sides last meeting in Markets Field came in last season’s playoffs when the Blues ran out 4-1 winners thanks to goals from Phoenix Patterson, Junior Quitirna and a Sean Guerins own goal.

The Blues currently sit in 2nd place in the league while Treaty sit in 9th place.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match against Treaty United, Head Coach Keith Long said:

“We were excellent in the first half, scored some really good goals and it was a complete performance in the first half, but it was the complete opposite in the second half and we have lots of areas to work on.

“Monday is another tough away fixture [v Treaty United]. We need to make sure we marry the positives [from Friday’s win] with some of the negatives that we need to improve on, to keep getting better as we go.”

Team News: Matthew Connor is expected to miss out but is closing in on a return, while Harvey Warren and Wassim Aouachria continue to recover from recent injuries which saw both miss Friday’s win over Athlone.
