The Blues come into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of league leaders Galway United last Friday night. The home side took the lead just after the half-hour mark through Ed McCarthy before David Hurley’s penalty doubled their lead midway through the second half.
Ronan Coughlan halved the deficit after 80 minutes but despite a final push, the Blues couldn’t find the desired equaliser.
The sides last met at the beginning of April when Keith Long’s side ran out comfortable 3-1 winners in St Colman’s Park. Goals from Roland Idowu, Ronan Coughlan and Shane Griffin ensured three points for the Blues.
The Blues are unbeaten against their Munster neighbours in the last five encounters, while the last time the Blues lost the fixture in the RSC was back in 2016.
Cobh come into the game on the back of a 4-1 win over Finn Harps on Friday night in St. Colman’s Park.
The Blues currently sit in second place in the league, five points clear of Cobh Ramblers in third place.
From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against Cobh Ramblers, head coach Keith Long said:
“Five games in 14 days returned three wins and two defeats which can only be viewed as missed opportunities to close the gap on Galway. We can only take care of our own performance and unfortunately we came up short in Galway last Friday and then at home last bank holiday weekend against Wexford.
“Cobh proved very tough opponents last time we played. Shane will have his team well organised and we will have to be at our best to get back on track.”
Team News: Matthew Connor closes in on a return following injury.
