SSE Airtricity First Division
Kerry FC -v- Waterford FC
Monday, 5th June 2023
Kick-Off: 4.00pm
Referee: Declan Toland
It’s a quick turnaround for Waterford FC with a trip to face Kerry FC this Monday afternoon in Mounthawk Park (KO 4pm).
The Blues will be looking to make it two wins from two this weekend after a 7-0 win at home to Treaty United on Friday night.
Chris Conn-Clarke, Shane Griffin (2), Giles Phillips, Tunmise Sobowale, Ronan Coughlan and Thomas Oluwa were all on the scoresheet as the Blues closed the gap to leaders Galway United with an excellent performance.
The Blues faced Kerry back in April for the side’s first meeting; Ronan Coughlan’s 70th minute goal proving the difference between the sides. Following Monday’s clash in Kerry, the Blues are back at the RSC on Friday to face Bray Wanderers before the mid-season break sees no match the following weekend.
The visitors come into the game in 10th place, while the Blues remain second.
From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match against Kerry FC, First Team coach Brian Murphy said:
“It was a very professional performance [against Treaty United]. We needed a good start and got ourselves in front early in the game with some very good goals and another clean sheet.
“Using the squad is so important with so many games and we got to do that [on Friday night] before the visit to Kerry. It’s about using the group, we’ve spoken about that and it’ll be the same on Monday.
“We got back to work on Sunday to build towards Monday and we’ll travel down to Kerry looking for more points. We know it’ll be another tough match in Kerry but we’re ready to go.”
Team News: Dean McMenamy, Harvey Warren and Wassim Aouachria are expected to miss out again through injury. Darragh Power returned to the squad on Friday following injury, while Niall O’Keeffe returns from suspension.
