SSE Airtricity First Division
Wexford FC -v- Waterford FC
Monday, 7th August 2023
Kick-Off: 6pm
Referee: Rob Dowling

It’s a quick turnaround this weekend as Waterford FC travel to Ferrycarrig Park on Monday to face Wexford FC.

Friday saw the Blues return to winning ways with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Kerry FC at the RSC. Connor Parsons gave the Blues a half-time lead before second-half goals from Roland Idowu and Ronan Coughlan saw the Blues pick up three points.

The sides have met twice this season already, with one win each. The Blues won 3-0 on the opening day of the season in Ferrycarrig Park, before our south-east neighbours won 1-0 in the RSC.

Wexford were held to a 2-2 draw on the road on Friday night away to Cobh Ramblers, a late penalty denying James Keddy’s side three points having lead through goals from Danny Furlong and Thomas Oluwa.

The Blues remain second in the table, while Wexford are fifth.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Monday’s match, head coach Keith Long said:

“Friday was a good win and a clean sheet. We know we still have lots to do and lots to keep working on with so many new players coming in during the window. We created plenty of good chances and were unlucky not to win by more after hitting the woodword, some goal line clearances and good saves.

“We’re looking forward to Wexford on Monday now and that’s the focus. It’s going to be a tough challenge with the quick turnaround but we’ve done our recovery and prepared well over the weekend, so we’ll be ready to go.”

Team News: Dean McMenamy, Shane Griffin and Darragh Power all continue to miss out through injury. Harry Nevin is being assessed following injury in Friday’s match.
