SSE Airtricity First Division
Finn Harps -v- Waterford FC
Friday, 8th September 2023
Kick-Off: 7.45pm
Referee: Mark Houlihan

Waterford FC are back on the road this Friday evening with a long trip to Finn Park to face Finn Harps.

Tickets can be purchased here now.

Despite Roland Idowu levelling early last weekend, the Blues fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Athlone Town – the Blues first defeat in eight league games.

The Blues have beaten Finn Harps three times this season so far. The last trip to Finn Park saw a 4-0 win back in May, while two home games have seen 13 Blues goals in the two home matches in March and June this season.

Opponents Finn Harps will be looking to build on last week’s draw with Wexford, and notable results have seen them progress in the FAI Cup past Skerries Town and picking up a deserved point against league leaders Galway United.

Treaty sit 9th in the league table, nine points outside the play-off sports. The Blues remain second.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match, head coach Keith Long said:

“Last week [against Athlone] wasn’t good enough from us and it was a very disjointed performance. We’re still working hard with the boys to implement our ideas about how we want to try to play. Performances have dipped a bit recently but we look forward to the next match. Finn Harps away is never an easy play to go to but we’ve prepared right and our focus is on a good performance.

“We’re still missing big players like Ronan Coughlan and Barry Baggley but we’ve started to get other players back now like Darragh Power, Shane Griffin and Dean McMenamy. They have all been out for long periods and have now started to come back into the squad which will give us more strength coming into the latter part of the season.”

Team News: Harry Nevin, Barry Baggley and Ronan Coughlas continue to miss out through injury. Derik Osede joined the squad midweek. Romeo Akachukwu is on international duty with the Republic of Ireland U19s.
