Referee: Chris Sheehan

Waterford FC welcome Treaty United to the RSC this Friday evening in the final league game before the play-offs begin next week.

Tickets can be purchased here now.

A 400km round-trip to Kerry in our final away league game ended in a 1-1 draw. Ronan Coughlan was on the scoresheet, as manager Keith Long made 11 changes to the line-up for a second away game in a matter of days, as preparation continues ahead of Tuesday’s Play-Off First Leg away from home.

A defensive mistake had allowed Kerry the lead, but a strong finish saw the Blues coming narrowly close to winning the game with some excellent chances.

There’s been no shortage of action in the three league meetings between the Blues and Treaty United this season, with 16 goals in the game so far. The last meeting in the RSC in June was a 7-0 Blues win, with a 4-1 win and a 2-2 draw coming from the away ties in the Market’s Field.

Treaty come into the game in good form which has given Tommy Barrett’s a last-day chance at a promotion play-off spot, but they lost out 4-1 to Galway United in their last league action.

Following Friday’s match, the Blues are in play-off action on Tuesday away from home (opponent to be confirmed following Friday’s matches), before the second leg at the RSC on Saturday, October 28th, at 3pm.

From The Dugout: Speaking ahead of Friday’s match, head coach Keith Long said:

“Of course we were disappointed to drop points last Saturday in Kerry, but with the game on the Tuesday too we had to freshen the team with two games and lots of travel in the week. We controlled much of the game, they scored from our mistake but our reaction after making some changes was excellent. We showed a lot of quality when we needed to and finished the game really strongly.

“Our focus is on the games ahead now and to keep trying to improve where we can. We’ve got some really good players and have got to be ready to attack the playoffs. We have Treaty on Friday and then we’re into the play offs. That’s the focus now.

“We’ll be a threat and a danger to any team that we’ll play. We have belief in ourselves and we’ll be looking to go into next week with a good display against Treaty behind us.”

Team News: Sam Sargeant and Giles Phillips are available again after injury, while Romeo Akachukwu returns from international duty with the Republic of Ireland U19s.
