The Blues had their first outing of the season at home on Friday night, where they defeated Douglas Hall AFC by two-goals-to-nil in their Munster Senior Cup 3rd round tie. Two late goals from new signing Ben McCormack & Cameron Cresswell in extra-time secured Keith Long’s side a place in the quarter-final where they host Munster Senior League side Wilton United FC next month.
The Blues flew out to Fleetwood on Sunday morning to begin their week-long pre-season trip to Fleetwood Town, where the squad will use the state-of-the-art facilities in Poolfoot Farm to train and prepare for the start of the 2024 League of Ireland Premier Division campaign – which gets underway in a month’s time as the Blues welcome Shelbourne FC to the RSC on the opening night of the season on Friday 16th February.
The two sides met for the first-ever time last July when the Cod Army travelled over to Waterford for pre-season themselves, as they defeated the Blues by five goals to one on that occasion that saw plenty of Waterford FC’s academy players getting some valuable gametime with the first-team.
Keith Long and his squad will be backed by plenty Blues supporters who have made the trip over to Fleetwood to watch the game on Tuesday evening, as well as get a tour of Fleetwood’s Poolfoot farm training complex & Highbury Stadium, and also meet with the Fleetwood Town loyal supporters.
With the hosts in the midst of their Sky Bet League One campaign, the game will see the Cod Army will field a Fleetwood Town XI.
Waterford FC fans will be no strangers to some of Fleetwood’s current first-team players, with former Blues Phoenix Patterson, Junior Quitirna & Ronan Coughlan all involved with the Cod Army now.
Tomorrow’s game will be streamed live on Fleetwood Town’s YouTube channel for free from 6:45pm (Kick-off at 7pm). Click HERE to watch the game live!
