Waterford FC are delighted to announce the loan-signing of exciting forward Maleace Asamoah from sister-club Fleetwood Town FC.
The forward adds to Keith Long’s attack, as the Blues gear towards the start of our 2024 Premier Division campaign which gets underway next Friday.
The 21-year-old Englishman joins from Fleetwood Town, where he joined the Cod Army in July of 2023. Asamoah travelled with the Cods on their pre-season trip to Waterford last summer, as he opened the scoring in the friendly between the sides with a well-taken finish after 12 minutes in a game that saw Fleetwood emerge victorious.
Asamoah has played for Fleetwood in League One action along with League Cup action this season to date, and is a welcome addition to Keith Long’s side as he bolsters the Blues attack ahead of our Premier Division opener against Shelbourne FC next Friday.
Speaking on signing for the Blues, Maleace was delighted to have the deal over the line:
“I’m buzzing to be here. I’ve had a good run of games at Fleetwood, but I’m excited to push on here at Waterford. It’s going to be a big test obviously after getting promoted, but one I’m looking forward to”.
“I’m a wide player, I like to get in behind the defence as much as possible, so the RSC will definitely suit me. I’m direct; I like to get forward a lot using my pace.
“I’ve been in-season with Fleetwood obviously since July, so I’m coming here fit and ready to go & excited help the team out.”
Head Coach Keith Long commented on Asamoah’s signing saying:
“Maleace is a flying winger; can operate on either side. He’s someone who can get the fans excited. Quick, athletic, hungry for success; He’s very keen to come to Waterford which was important.
“Obviously the link with Fleetwood enables this loan, which further shows the clubs working in partnership. It’s great to have Maleace on board for the coming year.”
Asamoah will wear the number 11 shirt at the RSC for the year ahead.
