Our Community team visited St. Angela’s Ursuline Secondary School in Waterford city recently, where we put on a training session for their U15 School side.

Head of Community Development at Waterford FC Colin Power, and Community ambassador Maeve Williams, visited St. Angela’s Ursuline Secondary School last week to help prepare their girls side for their important cup semi-final later on that week.

Speaking about the training session, teacher Jen Frost outlined just how much the girls enjoyed the session in collaboration with Waterford FC:

“I would definitely say as football is one of the biggest sports in our school, to link with a League of Ireland Premier Division team along with a female coach that plays in the Women’s League of Ireland, it has really made the girls feel like the sport they love is appreciated in the school and that the sky is the limit for their aspirations. Maeve was a fantastic role-model for the girls going forward.”

Community Ambassador at Waterford FC Maeve Williams was delighted to get involved with coaching the St. Angela’s Ursuline Secondary School’s U15 team:

“It’s great to get out to schools in the community and meet young players. It’s important that these girls have the opportunity to play, since they are the future of women’s football in Waterford. Thanks to the Ursuline for having us and to the players who showed great enthusiasm and understanding throughout.”
