The Blues make the journey to Derry this Friday after picking up a strong three-points at home to St. Patrick’s Athletic at the RSC on Monday evening.

Padraig Amond opened the scoring after just seven minutes, heading home Maleace Asamoah’s looping cross, before the visitors equalised after 34 minutes through a close-range finish from Anto Breslin.

Amond put the Blues back in the lead minutes before half-time, firing home from a mistake from the Pats keeper Pitaluga to give the Blues a deserved lead at half-time.

Asamoah then got on the act himself with twenty minutes remaining when he picked up a loose ball on the half-way line before getting beyond the visitors defence to give the Blues a deserved 3-1 victory, which now leaves Keith Long’s side in third place in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table on seven points after four games.

The Blues now go in search of their second away win of the season, against a Derry City side that are tipped to be challenging for the league title this year.

Derry City FC

Ruaidhrí Higgins side have started their 2024 campaign off strong, picking up eight points from their opening four games as they occupy second place in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division.

The Candystripes defeated Drogheda United by two-goals-to-one in their opening game of the season, before picking up a point away to Sligo Rovers the following week. A late Danny Mullen strike saw Higgins’ side defeat St. Patrick’s Athletic last Friday in a 2-1 win, before City picked up a point away to Shamrock Rovers on Monday night in a game that saw the Candystripes concede a late equaliser.

With a huge amount of Premier Division experience in the Derry City squad, a tough battle ensues the Blues on Friday night.
