Fixture: Sligo Rovers FC vs Waterford FC

Competition: SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division

Date: Friday 3rd May 2024

Venue: The Showgrounds

Time: 19:45

WATERFORD FC

The Blues make the journey to the Showgrounds looking to return to winning ways after falling to defeat against Derry City at the RSC last Friday. A first-half penalty from Will Patching opened the scoring for the Candystripes, before the experienced Patrick Hoban doubled their lead with fifteen minutes remaining.

Keith Long’s side will look to pick up their first points of the season against Sligo – after the Bit o’Red picked up all three points against the Blues in their opening clash of the season at the end of March. A 51st-minute Ellis Chapman strike proved the difference between the sides, as John Russell’s side returned to the west with all three points.

After picking up important points in recent weeks (a 1-0 win away to Bohemians, 0-0 draw against Galway United & 1-1 draw away to St. Patrick’s Athletic), the Blues will look to add to their points total – where they currently sit on 13 points after 12 games as they occupy 8th place in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table.

SLIGO ROVERS FC

John Russell’s side welcome the Blues looking to pick up their first win in six games. After defeating the Blues by a goal-to-nil at the end of March, the Bit o’Red have picked up just two points from five games (2 draws, 3 losses).

John Russell’s side fell to 3-1 defeat away to Drogheda United last Friday. Former Blue Will Fitzgerald opened the scoring early on for Sligo, before Darragh Markey levelled the scoring after 25 minutes. Frantz Pierrot gave the Louth side the lead with twenty minutes remaining, before Aaron McNally sealed the victory in the dying minutes.

Sligo Rovers occupy 7th place in the league table – a point ahead of the Blues on 14 points.

WATERFORD FC Team News:

Kacper Skwierczyński misses out due to a hip injury. Harvey Macadam & Ryan Burke are both doubtful for the game in the Showgrounds and will be assessed.
