Waterford FC picked up their third home win in a fortnight with a strong two-one victory over Bohemian FC at the RSC on Friday night, thanks to goals from Christie Pattisson & Padraig Amond either side of half-time.
Padraig Amond struck his ninth goal of this years SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division campaign as Waterford FC continued their impressive run back in the top-flight after inflicting defeat on Bohemian FC to move up to fourth spot in front of 2,994 spectators at the RSC.
It was the home side that got off to a dream start when netting the opener inside nine minutes. Sam Sargeant played a long ball forward that was flicked on by Padraig Amond into the path of Christie Pattisson, and he fired his third goal of the campaign past Kacper Chorazka from 14 yards.
After Pattisson had a looping header just clear the crossbar a minute later, Bohs had to wait until 28 minutes for their first opening. Dylan Connolly found space down the right that saw Sargeant clear to the top of the area, but Martin Miller’s cracking left-footed strike was superbly tipped over.
The Dalymount outfit drew level from a set-piece two minutes later when the hosts were penalised 25-yards from goal, and Dayle Rooney’s deflected effort off the wall flew past the despairing dive of goalkeeper Sargeant.
With Bohs turning the screw after getting themselves level, they could have struck the front three minutes before the break. Rooney sent over a left-wing cross that picked out the run of James Clarke, but his close-range effort just cleared the crossbar.
Waterford regained the lead on 71 minutes. Darragh Power slipped the ball into the right channel for Pattisson, and he crossed into the centre where Padraig Amond was on hand to fire past Kacper Chorazka from close-range.
Waterford were looking for action from referee Alan Patchell when Filip Piszczek looked to have kicked out at Grant Horton, who hit the ground, but the match officials didn’t seem to see the incident much to the dismay of the centre half.
Sam Sargeant produced a stunning save to deny the visitors an equalising goal when Jevon Mills picked up possession of the ball 30-yards only to see his powerful effort to be turned onto the crossbar as the Blues held out for victory.
