Fixture: Waterford FC vs Shelbourne FC
Competition: SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division
Date: Thursday 13th June 2024
Venue: RSC
Kick-off: 7:45pm
WATERFORD FC
The Blues host Shelbourne FC at the RSC this Thursday in their final game before the League of Ireland mid-season break, as Keith Long’s side look to pick up their fifth consecutive home league win.
The Blues have had great success at home in recent weeks, with home wins over Dundalk (4-1), Drogheda United (4-2), Bohemians (2-1), and most recently last Friday Sligo Rovers (4-1). With a point already picked up against Shelbourne at the RSC on the opening night of the season back in February, the Blues will be looking to add to that tally tomorrow evening.
Over the half-way point of the league season now with 20 games played, the Blues remain in fourth position on 31 points in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division table.
SHELBOURNE FC
The Reds have been the stand-out side in the Premier Division this season, leading the way from the early stages of the season. Damien Duff has brought an enjoyable style of football to Tolka Park, as his side sit at the top of the Premier Division – two points ahead of second-place Derry City with a game in hand.
With just one defeat from their last ten games – a run that saw them pick up 19 points – the Reds make the journey to the RSC looking to earn a second win of the season against the Blues.
The sides faced each other in May, when a 73rd minute strike from substitute Sean Boyd proved the difference between the sides in-front of a packed Tolka Park with over 3,500 spectators in attendance.

KEITH LONG’S THOUGHTS
“Our focus is all about improving game on game. We want to continue to gel performance-wise and continue to improve as a squad.
The depth of our squad has been challenged – missing some key players, but those that have come inn have taken their opportunity with shows the value of the squad. It’s no longer a game of 1-11, but having a squad that has people ready to take their opportunity when it comes around.
The support at home at the RSC has been brilliant in recent weeks. We want that to continue again on Thursday. We want big games at the RSC, and we need our supporters to back us again like they done massively lately.
Shelbourne are a good side; Top of the league for a reason with good players. They’re a highly motivated and well organised side. It’s a tough task ahead of us but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
