Waterford FC are thrilled to announce that Shane Flynn has penned a deal to become the latest signing at the club this summer.
Flynn joins the Blues having spent the last six-years at Leicester City FC in England, joining the Foxes in 2018 from Bray Wanderers academy. He was part of Leicester’s match-day squads in the Europa League in 2021, and was also among the subs for their Premier League clash with Brighton at the Amex Stadium in March of that year.
The 22-year-old made 48 appearances for Leicester City’s Premier League 2 side, along with over 20 games in the U18 Premier League with the Leicester academy, as he now makes the move into senior football with the Blues.
With family links in Waterford City, the young winger is excited at the opportunity of playing for the Blues after signing on the dotted line.
Speaking on his delight signing for the Blues, Shane said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be here at Waterford. This is my first taste of senior football, but really excited for it. I’ve been watching from afar all season, and the way the season has gone for the club just going from strength to strength. Seeing where we are in the league, in third place, I’m joining a winning & competitive group, and I’m looking forward to getting involved as soon as possible in the games.
The standard here is top-class – everyone is firing the whole time. Like I said, it’s a winning group, the competitiveness is there. Everyone wants to do well every day, working each other as hard as they can. It’s been infectious, so yeah I’ve really enjoyed it so far.
I’m hard-working, passionate, playing for the badge is first-and-foremost the main things about me. I try to get in and around the box, score a few goals & contribute with assist as well, with hard-work and passion to the team”
Blues Head Coach Keith Long is excited to work with Shane Flynn, commenting:
“Shane has spent six-years at Leicester City FC, has been involved in European squads over there, was voted Leicester’s U18 Player of the Year, along with playing at St. Joseph’s Boys previous to that, so I’ve known Shane for a good number of years since he was a schoolboys player.
He’s a player that can play in a number of different positions, but predominantly plays on the left. A good technical player with good game intelligence and good quality with his left-foot. His passing range both short & long is very good, so he’s a quality player, and hopefully he will compliment the rest of the squad and the players we have at the club”.
Shane will wear the number 53 shirt with the Blues. Both his home and away shirts are now available to sponsor for the remainder of the 2024 League of Ireland season. Contact commercial@waterfordfc.ie to find out more information.
Welcome to the Blues, Shane!
