Fixture: Galway United FC vs Waterford FC
Competition: SSE Airtricity men’s Premier Division
Date: Friday 12th July 2024
Venue: Eamonn Deacy Park
Kick-off: 7:45pm
WATERFORD FC
The Blues back the journey to the West on the back of three strong victories since the mid-season break. After defeating Kerry FC to be crowned Munster Senior Cup champions for the 16th time in our club history, the Blues defeated Dundalk FC in Oriel Park in their first league game back thanks to first-half goals from Connor Parsons & Dean McMenamy.
That result in Oriel was followed up with an impressive 1-0 home win against St. Patrick’s Athletic FC at the RSC last Friday when Ben McCormack’s second-half header against his former club proved the difference as Keith Long’s side maintained their third-place in the league table.
The Blues fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to the Tribesmen at the beginning of March, two second-half goals cancelled out Padraig Amond’s opener after 18 minutes. Both sides then played out a scoreless draw at the RSC in April in their second meeting of the season.
After 23 league games played so far this year, the Blues occupy third spot on 37 points, with only Derry City & Shelbourne sitting ahead of the Waterford.

GALWAY UNITED FC
The Tribesmen come into the game on Friday on the back of just one win from their previous five SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division game – a three-nil win over Drogheda United in the middle of June.
John Caulfield’s men came from an early goal down to rescue a point against Bohemians at Eamonn Deacy park last Thursday, as Rob Slevin cancelled out Dayle Rooney’s early opener.
Galway now sit in fifth-place in the league table on 31 points after 22 games – six points behind the Blues.
