The Blues return to league action this Friday, as they make the journey up to co. Louth to take on Drogheda United FC in their latest SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash in Weavers Park.

After securing their place in the third round of this years Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup thanks a 2-1 victory over Dongeal side Cockhill Celtic on FC on Friday afternoon, the Blues return their attention to league action this coming Friday with a trip to Weavers Park to take on ‘the Drogs’.

The Blues have enjoyed playing Kevin Doherty’s side so far this year, picking up maximum points in both meetings against Drogheda.

The Blues picked up their first win of the season away to Drogheda at the end of February, with a resounding 4-1 win away from home. After falling behind after 13 minutes, the Blues got back in the game with two goals in seven minutes from Darragh Leahy & Niall O’Keeffe, before Leahy got his second of the game with Padraig Amond finishing off the scoring to secure Keith Long’s side all three points.

Waterford then hosted Drogheda United at the RSC in front of the Virgin Media cameras in May, when the Blues recovered from falling two-goals behind to pick up all three points with a strong 4-2 win. Padraig Amond netted a sensational 13-minute hat-trick, along with Darragh Power opening his account for the season, as the Blues came from behind to pick up an important three points in front of almost 2,500 spectators at the RSC.
