Waterford FC can confirm that Ronan Mansfield has joined Fleetwood Town FC on loan for the remainder of Fleetwood’s campaign.
Mansfield joined the Blues’ U14 side in 2018 from his schoolboys club Cappoquin Railway FC. After a strong progression through the Waterford FC Academy playing for the U14, U15 & U17 age groups, he was rewarded with his First Team debut in a 7-0 win at home to Treaty United FC in the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division last season.
Ronan went on to make a further five league appearances before the end of the 2023 season – including making his first league start away to Kerry FC at Mounthawk Park in October.
Mansfield featuring throughout the Blues’ 2024 pre-season, making appearances in each of our Munster Senior Cup ties as he played a pivotal role in the Blues’ cup success – defeating Kerry FC 2-1 in Turners Cross in June in a game that saw Ronan create both goals for Connor Evans & Calum Costello.
Ronan has played an important role for our MU20 side this season, being named captain of our oldest academy side at the beginning of the 2024 season.
Ronan is a huge favourite within the academy, with his strong leadership skills both on & off the field, along with his versatility allowing him to play anywhere across the back-line.
Speaking on Ronan’s move, Waterford FC’s Academy Manager Mike Geoghegan commented:
“Ronan is a coach’s dream to work with. He gives 100% in both training & games. He is unfailing in his preparations & maintains the standards of a player who wants to succeed. We wish him all the best with his move.
This move also shows the potential of our group structure with Fleetwood Town FC & how players can move between both clubs to develop.”
Everyone at Waterford FC would like to wish Ronan the very best of luck in his loan move to Poolfoot!
